有495的朋友打算临居期间，就生小孩的吗？

My son is nearly 2 months old. I have medibank private basic visitor cover insurance. My wife went to Flinders Medical Centre about 11 times for antenatal check. Each check costs $115 flat fee including 1 ultrasound check and couple of blood exams. I have not received the invoice for baby delivery yet. People said it should be easily more than $5000.00 because my wife had caesarian section.  Normal labour is just around $3000.00.  I suggest you to buy healthy insurance even if you are already pregnant. There is no one year waiting period for newborn. Any medical cost of your newborn is covered by your medical cover immediately. However, you’d better remember to require your insurance company to add you newborn into your cover. There is no extra cost for your newborn if you are on couple or family cover.

If you have any further question, do ask anybody who can help. I find good planning can save you a lot of money and time in Australia.

I am on 495 visa. $115 is all covered by Medibank Private.(my friend said that hers was only 70% covered, I do not understand)

Newborn is not delivery. Delivery is not covered if you joined in less than 1 year. What I was trying to say is that any medical cost of your newborn baby, after birth, is covered.

eva_kong, you can do that. But you will have to apply 495 visa for your newborn and which cost more than $1900. Australian health care system for children is pretty good and you will miss it out.
